Alykanas Alykes Holidays
Alykanas is close to the neighbouring resort of Alykes on the north eastern coast of Zante. Just 1km separates these two laid back resorts and it is a pleasant walk from one to the other. Both resorts offers a place to escape from it all and are only a short drive from Zante airport of around 30 minutes. These friendly and welcoming resorts are surrounded by lush vegetation and owe their names to the salt pits that once supplied salt to the entire island, and are now home to local wildlife.
The two resorts are linked by a gorgeous soft sandy beach with crystal clear waters, which at Alykes has been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness, making it ideal for families and children. Water sports are available on the beach at Alykanas so there is always something to keep the more active holidaymaker busy. There is fun for the family too with pedaloes, banana boats and ringos also on hand to help you maximise your fun in the sun. The beach at Alykanas offers fantastic views of the neighbouring island of Kefalonia.
Alykanas Holidays – Out and about
Once the sun goes down, head for one of the many fine restaurants or tavernas and enjoy some tasty Greek food, the fish restaurants have an excellent reputation and there are many in this area serving up the fresh catch of the day. Some of the bars can become quite lively during the high season, however they are all family friendly. On the outskirts of Alykanas, is the original village of Alykanas which is now called old Alykanas. This pretty village has a real traditional Greek feel and is a perfect spot for a relaxing stay in a quieter part of the resort. There are a handful of tavernas serving delicious traditional food. The narrow part of the beach at old Alykanas is water sport and sunbed free and less busy then the main parts at Alykes and Alykanas.
There are a number of shops throughout the resort that sell local crafts, jewellery and souvenirs which are perfect for friends and families or for your memory of a great holiday in Alykanas. Overlooking both Alykes and Alykanas is the ancient monastery of St Ioannis the Baptist, which was once a rest area for pilgrims weary from their travels and also once housed masterpieces of art. Monk’s still live in the monastery and it is also now open to the public, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
