Afandou Holidays

Afandou is one of the largest and oldest villages on the island of Rhodes. Sitting on the north eastern side, around 25km from the airport, this laid back resort is just ten minutes drive south of Faliraki. With a real traditional village centre it gives a taste of authentic Greece.

Families and couples enjoy regular holidays to Afandou and especially love its long sandy beach which is one of the longest on the island and it has a Blue Flag award. The beach is actually around 2 km from the village centre and a little street train takes tourists back and forward. It is backed by tavernas and snack bars which are ideal for refreshments and snacks whilst enjoying the day in the sun. The beach is perfect for escaping the crowds and for the more energetic there is a selection of water sports to enjoy. The Bay of Afandou is approximately 3km long and the pebbly beach dips into the shallow, crystal clear clear sea. There are some water sports available and young explorers love one end of the beach where they will find caves and rocks.

Food and Drink in Afandou

The village square is the heart of Afandou. There is a wide choice of bars and restaurants that are in the winding streets that lead away from the square. A visit to a traditional Greek taverna is a must on any Afandou holiday. Tasty traditional Greek food is served and sourced from local farmers and fisherman. Another must is to try one of the delicious pastries available in the bakeries that are surrounding the village square.

The nightlife is relaxed and informal, for party goers looking for a big night out, a ten minute taxi ride will take them to Faliraki, 5km away, where the legendary nightlife is non-stop clubbing and foam parties. The public bus service on Rhodes is excellent and Afandou is on the main bus line from Rhodes Town to Lindos, both are well worth a visit for a day or evening out.

A holiday to Afandou is more suited to independent travellers or families that are looking for some peace and quiet away from the crowds of the major resorts. So for a real authentic Greek holiday, head for Afandou. The tourist season in Afandou runs from mid April to late October. Average temperatures range from 24ºc in low season to around 31ºc in August.
