Cala d'Or Holidays
Cala d’Or is one of Majorca’s most picturesque resorts; it is tucked away on the south-east coast of Majorca. Originally a traditional fishing village it was developed during the tourism boom of the 1970’s and still at the heart of the resort is the lively marina along with the attractive white washed buildings that make up the resort centre.
Holidays to Cala d’Or have been popular with tourists for many years now, the resort actually stretches the islands coast for around 4km and has seven fabulous sandy bays and rocky coves. Cala Gran is by far the most popular of the beaches, it is wide, has super views across the Mediterranean, lovely soft sand lapped by the gentle waves and it is ideal for a dip or swim in the crystal clear glittering sea. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire and the beachside cafes and bars offer a welcome place to escape the heat of the day to cool down.
After a day of extreme relaxation on the beach it’s time to hit the traffic free main street for some souvenir shopping. Here you will find a range of shops and boutiques that sell everything from designer clothing to local pottery and antiques. After driving a few bargains thoughts will turn to food. There are a wide range of bars, cafes and restaurants offering everything from Paella to traditional Tapas as well as international favourites. There is something to suit all tastes and budgets. Vincente Restaurante is well worth a visit, it has been a popular place to eat for locals and tourists alike for over forty years and serves up tasty Mediterranean dishes.
Cala D’Or – Nights out
Cala d’Or holidays can be as low key as you want, yet this thriving resort can be very busy during the high season with a lively nightlife of music bars and karaokes, but without the boisterous behaviour associated with the bigger and livelier resorts. The marina at Cala Llonga has a good choice of bars and restaurants to enjoy in an evening whilst overlooking the boats and yachts coming home for the night.
As one of the oldest resorts on Majorca, there is a good range of accommodation with options for the budget conscious through to luxury hotels or villas there is something for all ages and tastes. Families love the relaxing days and lively family friendly nightlife. Hire a car and discover some of the best kept secrets of the eastern coast with its craggy coves or sea caves or take a boat trip on a glass bottom boat and explore the Mediterranean Sea’s inhabitants.
