Gouves has established itself as a popular seaside resort that has gorgeous beaches with lots of traditional Greek villages close by. It sits on the northern coast of the island and is only twelve miles to the east of the airport and the capital Heraklion. For a much livelier evening many head down to Aghios Nikolaos or Hersonissos which are bigger resorts that are packed with wall to wall nightlife and ideal for night owls.

Take some time to visit some of the local traditional Cretan villages that are close by and see how everyday life is on this lovely Mediterranean island. Other popular days out include the ancient sites at Knossos, the archaeological museum at Heraklion, the famous Samaria Gorge and a boat trip to the island of Santorini always proves popular. As well as other ancient monuments on the island there are plenty of opportunities in the area for some retail therapy including Heraklion and Hersonissos with a good range of shops, stalls and boutiques followed by a spot of lunch or a cocktail in one of the many bars and cafes.
