The nearest resort to Chania is the pretty town of Aghia Marina which is around 8kms away and was named after an original village nearby. The road continues through other beachside villages such as the more lively Platanias just along the coast and the quieter Gerani and to Maleme. Each resort offers something different and for the more active holidaymaker there are a number of walking trails, gorges and archaeological sites and are just waiting to be discovered. The mountain villages are worth a visit and offer stunning views over the impressive coastline.
